Abdul Rehman is the only male child of Mr. Abdul Hakeem and was born after two daughters. The parents were overjoyed at the birth of a baby boy who they hoped would be their support in their old age. However their happiness was short lived because when the child started growing they realized that he was blind in both eyes. Their hopes and dreams were shattered. They did not know what to do. Mr. Hakeem works at a shanty hotel in village Killy Badini, District Noshki (Balochistan) and earns a meager sum of Rs.4000/-($ 50) per month which was barely enough for food. They resigned themselves to the situation and accepted the blindness of the child as fate..However when Master Rehman was three, the father was persuaded by some people who also who met the expense, to take the child to Quetta to a doctor for examination The doctor gave some medicines for three months which had no effect whatsoever.. The parents were now in deep depression. Then a friend of Mr. Hakeem who worked in Quetta came back to the village for a visit. Seeing the state of the child he advised Mr Hakeem to take him to LRBT’s Eye Hospital in Quetta, where all treatment including surgery is provided absolutely free of cost by highly qualified and experienced doctors.The child was brought to LRBT’s Quetta hospital. Examination revealed that he was suffering from congenital cataract in both eyes which was curable by simple surgery. The child was operated in one eye. Upon opening the bandage, the father showed him a piece of roti (bread) which he grabbed.. The parents joy knew no bounds.. Their fervent prayers had been answered. Their dreams miraculously restored.. Their only son had emerged from a life of perpetual darkness. He can now look forward to a productive existence. Master Rehman’s other eye will be operated after three months.
